Botanical Eco-Printing Workshop – Create a One-of-a-Kind Silk Scarf

We’re back with a much-loved collaboration between The Adorned and Be The Earth Foundation, inviting you to slow down, work with your hands, and discover the colours and patterns hidden in plants.

Join multidisciplinary artist Nastasha Sale at Be Hive, Boschendal, for an immersive, hands-on introduction to botanical eco-printing.

Eco-printing is a process of transferring the natural pigments and tannins of plants directly onto fabric through contact, heat, steam and natural mordants.

The magic is in the uncertainty. As plants, heat and fabric come together, each print reveals something unexpected. No two scarves will ever be the same.

During the workshop, you’ll learn how to:

🌿 Identify plants that create strong and beautiful prints
🌿 Prepare fabric for eco-printing
🌿 Explore plant placement and composition
🌿 Bundle and steam your fabric to create the print
🌿 Use botanical materials to create one-of-a-kind patterns and colours

You’ll create your own raw silk scarf, which you’ll take home along with a printed eco-printing workbook to continue experimenting with the process at home.

No previous artistic experience is needed. Just curiosity, an openness to experimentation, and a love of nature.

This is a relaxed, family-friendly workshop designed for beginners, with plenty of time for exploration and personal guidance in a small group setting.
